Workstation set-up/ Postural pain: if you suffer from pain, stiffness or headache whilst working, it may be due to poor ergonomics, or a lack of postural strength. Dunsborough Physio are able to treat your pain and stiffness and show you how to improve your postural strength, and stretch tight tissue. We also are happy to visit your workplace to assess your ergonomics, and give advice. Visit our "Workstation Set Up" page: click / tap here.

Dunsborough Physiotherapy Centre - Assessment and Treatment Technologies
At Dunsborough Physiotherapy Centre we have access to cutting edge assessment and treatment technologies. Below are descriptions of some of the technologies commonly used by our physiotherapy team.
Real-time ultrasound: an excellent method of assessing deep abdominal / pelvic floor strength in real-time: understanding the correct method of engaging your core musclulature is essential when embarking on an effective core strengthening rehabilitation program. Real-time ultrasound at Dunsborough Physiotherapy Centre allows you to watch your core muscle groups working on screen.
Ultrasound (Therapeutic): useful for the treatment of inflammatory conditions, haematoma, and painful (sensitised) soft tissue. Ultrasound potentially speeds up of the healing process due to an increase in blood flow to the treatment area. Ultrasound can help to decrease pain by reducing swelling, and creates a gentle massaging effect to muscles, tendons, and/ or ligaments in the treated area . Ultrasound is also a useful treatment modality for certain women's health conditions such as mastitis. Ultrasound is regularly employed following any acute soft tissue injury.
Goniometry: at Dunsborough Physiotherapy Centre we have access to a number of joint range of movement measuring devices including inclinometers, spondylometers, and a number of joint-specific goniometers. To be able to assess the amount of movement in a joint is essential in any rehabilitation program aiming to improve flexibility. Goniometry is also useful when assessing posture in varied situations (such as work-station set-ups, and bike-fits).
Laser therapy: used for treatment of a range of painful conditions, giving relief from symptoms. Laser is effective in relieving short-term pain for rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, acute and chronic neck pain, tendinopathy and possibly chronic joint disorders. Laser may also potentially play a role in stimulating wound healing. At Dunsborough Physiotherapy Centre our laser device has the added ability to assess for acupressure points in muscle groups, which once identified can be treated with trigger point massage or dry needling techniques.
Hand Dynamometry: an effective measurement of grip strength, hand dynamometry can be used to assess for weakness related to a number of conditions, such as carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, and golfer's elbow. Hand dynamometry is often a component of pre-work assessments which Dunsborough Physiotherapy Centre perform regularly.
Push-pull dynamometry: an accurate method of assessing muscle strength. Dynamometry is particularly useful for assessing improvement post-surgery, or during the participation of a structured rehabilitation program. Assessment of the non-affected side gives a base-line and helps in the formulation of realistic treatment goals.
EMG (Electromyography) and Muscle Stimulation: EMG measures the electrical activity in a muscle at rest, and during contraction of that same muscle. EMG is a useful assessment tool used to gauge the strength of a muscle: if weakness is noted (a low EMG reading) a rehabilitation program can be devised to improve the function of the affected muscle. EMG can be also be used to assess the strength of contraction achieved during a series of resistance exercise repetitions (ie. as an invaluable rehabilitation treatment tool). Muscle stimulators are useful to stimulate a weakened muscle electrically during contraction. This treatment modality is particularly useful if a muscle is dramatically weakened and wasted (often an issue post-surgery / post-injury).
Interferential therapy: is a non-invasive, low-risk form of nerve stimulation used for the treatment of pain. Interferential creates a pins and needles sensation through electrodes to help block the pain message (creating an anaelgesic effect) from a damaged / painful area of the body. Interferential therapy can be used prior to manual therapy (hands-on treatment) to desensitise an area, so that more meaningful treatment techniques can be employed by your physiotherapist during your treatment session at Dunsborough Physio Centre.
Pressure biofeedback unit: a device which gives feedback during assessment of core stabiliser musculature strength (deep abdominals), and deep neck flexor musculature endurance testing. This device can be used to give feedback during a strengthening program to ensure the correct muscle groups are being engaged.
Core strengthening aids: at Dunsborough Physiotherapy Centre we have access to a number of aids to help improve core strength including fitballs, pilates rings, rollers, wobble boards, and balance discs. Our physiotherapy team members are able to fashion a rehabilitation program which incorporates these core stability aids to help you improve your functional mobility, and lessen the chance of future injury.
TENS (Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation): TENS is a non-invasive, low-risk form of nerve stimulation intended to give short-term pain relief. Studies have shown that TENS may modulate or suppress pain signals in the brain. This device is portable and is often used by long-term pain sufferers. Similar in nature to interferntial therapy, TENS creates a pins and needles sensation in the vicinity of the electrodes contacting the skin. This lessens the pain message being transferred to the brain from the damaged / painful area. TENS can be used during first stage labour as a form of pain relief. At Dunsborough Physiotherapy Centre we have obstetric TENS units for hire / purchase.
Resistance devices: we have access to a number of resistance devices to help improve muscle strength and endurance. Resistance tubing, resistance band, hand weights, and ankle weights are all useful adjuncts as part of an effective muscle conditioning program. Resistance devices can be purchased directly from Dunsborough Physiotherapy Centre. Speak to your physiotherapist / our admin staff for more information.
Kinesio / Rigid Sports Taping: whether it be taping pre-event, or as a method of reducing pain and improving stability, our physios are able to supply effective taping techniques to help you to achieve your goals and effectively follow a rehabilitation program. Kinesio tape gives feedback via skin tensioning helping an athlete to perform with less pain from the underlying area. Rigid sports tape gives stability to a damaged / unstable joint allowing you to remain active. Both forms of taping are regularly employed by our physiotherapists at Dunsborough Physiotherapy Centre.
